OMG, I just have to share of Liza Donnelly, whose considerable talents are shown in her creativity with cartoons, not least, in the New Yorker.
Today’s post is particularly compelling. Looky here:
Thank you, thank you Liza Donnelly!
What a wonderful talent is the person of Barbara Shermund.
Ms. Shermund lived from 26 June 1899 till 9 September 1978, and she was an indomitable spirit, a spirit Ms. Donnelly teaches me to cherish and love and to look with twinkling eyes to laugh lightly at foibles of today’s society.
As you link with the article, you sill see much more.
Here is only a small temptation from Ms. Shermund’s wonderful spirit and artistry:
My goodness, how pregnant is that one cartoon with meaning and commentary on relationships!
How contemporary in spirit, though recognizable Jazz Age fashions of the above cartoon!
I am keeping Liza Donnelly’s Article on my favorites.
Moreover, there is a book with Barbara Shermund’s life and art that will be published in November this year (just in time to console from the Presidential election) here:
Armando doesn’t sell things, but Liza Donnelly’s article, having introduced me to the tremendous talent presented by Barbara Shermund, I pre-ordered the book.
Here are a couple more links pregnant with information and some artwork by Barbara Shermund:

Liza Donnelly herself included information about Barbara Shermund in LD’s own book, Funny Ladies — The New Yorker’s Women Cartoonists (1 March 2022, Prometheus Books — Guilford, Connecticut, Hardback ISBN: 978-1633886865, also available in e-book (e.g., Kindle):
Liza Donnelly’s book, which I just purchased in the Kindle-Edition, treats of many women artists from circa 1920 to the present in 200 pages.
Liza Donnelly is a trove.
But I can hardly wait to get the biography and artwork in November.
Remember: I encourage dear friends to read worthwhile authors, very high in that rubric is Liza Donnelly and her art work. Armando’s work is free, because that is all it is worth! (My 53-year-long Love-of-My-Life, Nancy, would tell you: Don’t ever encourage Armando — he has enough toys and chocolate candies!)
I am not selling books by Liza Donnelly or anyone else. But Liza Donnelly contributes so much to my good cheer, and Barbara Shermund — including the fashion of the Flappers during the Jazz Age is very modern in spirit. The 1920s were very fresh and new in spirit, and they are very close to today’s free spirit out of proportion to the time of a century passed.
But what I say is: The work of Liza Donnelly is wonderful and free in spirit, as is the work of Barbara Shermund, and I am very grateful to Liza Donnelly for today introducing me to this free spirit, and I buy their work because I hunger for such art!
Charming!
Armand, the Left just kicked ass in France!
It was a great post , happy you shared it my friend . peace to you
